Fun Things for Women to Do in Boston

Unlike some men-folk who can be easily occupied by watching sports, women enjoy a variety of activities. Whether you're looking for a nice, quiet cafe or a butt-kicking yoga class, Boston has you covered. With the help of Yelp, here's a list of the best of Boston for women in a number of categories.

Best Day Spa – Skin & Body Works in Davis Square comes out on top in this category with more than 70 Yelp votes adding up the 4.5 stars. Facials, waxing, and massage are the orders of the day at this spa. It seems that both Priscilla and Rebecca earn rave reviews from their customers. Words like “amazing,” “fast,” “relaxing,” “warm,” and “friendly” seem to reoccur throughout the posts.

Best Tea & Coffee Break – More than 130 Yelpers help land the Thinking Cup a 4.5-star status. In downtown Boston near the Common, this jewel of a cafe wins over pretty much anyone who takes a sip, even the most studied of consumers. Like one review stated, “As a self-proclaimed coffee connoisseur, Thinking Cup is simply one of the best coffee establishments I ever encountered. Unlike the other massive and often over-commercialized coffee houses, *cough* Starbucks, Thinking Cup offers a cozy ambiance and a personal singular service. I tried the hazelnut latte and it was simply heavenly.”

Best Brunch – No doubt here. Scup's in the Harbour's 4.5 stars from over 135 votes wins the day. Local ingredients and local beer, casual atmosphere and casual prices... Scup's has it all. Locals can't get enough of this place which is why it is often crowded. That being said, one Yelper summed things up, saying, “I would not at all be surprised if I opened up a dictionary and found the definition for 'hidden gem' to be 'Scup's.' What puts Scup's a step above other 'hidden' wonders is that it is, in fact, hidden. ... There are many visual delights to view from Scup's, but they do not hold a candle (no, not even one candle) to the food you will encounter.”

Best Pilates & Yoga Center – The Back Bay's Life in Synergy Studios holds a steady 4.5-star rating with about 75 votes. Pilates, yoga, Zumba, and Synergistics Fitness Method classes can all be taken here. They even offer some bodywork to relieve muscle tension and chronic pain. The studio's owner and SFM creator Helena Collins was voted best personal trainer in Beantown, so you know you're in for a workout. The rave reviews include this one: “Of course every review of this place is fantastic. ... Unlike other studios, LIS lets you sign up for one class at a time. No signing a contract. No awkwardness here. They are SO welcoming. Helena ... will welcome you at the door. After two classes she'll know you by name. And every one of her instructors is just as friendly, fun, and lovely.”

Best Bookstore – The Brookline Booksmith in Coolidge Corner manages a 4.5-star status with more than 260 votes. In a world where independent stores are few and far between, the Booksmith holds its own. As one Yelp user cited, “Brookline Booksmith is the ultimate browsing spot in Coolidge Corner. I've spent hours in there reading snippets of books, international mags, and oogling over the notebooks. (I love new stationary.) There is also a section that has the best-smelling candles, cute gag gifts and cards, and bags and wallets and random things that are way out of my price range but so fun to look at. There's an awesome bargain basement where I've bought almost all of the books I've ever bought from the store (so much cheaper!). Really cool local business, friendly staff, fun place to kill time!”
